Thimersol and Merck

In 1999, Merck announced they would be removing thimersol from their childhood vaccinations. However, it appears as though, they still distributed these vaccines to October 2001.

Thimersol is 50% ethyl mercury and used as a sterilizing agent in multidose vaccinations.
The thought is that the mercury may cause autism and other neurological disorders in children. 4200 claims have been submitted to the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program is funded by the federal government to supply for children damaged by the childhood vaccination program.

The National Academy of Science does not favor a causal relation between the small doses of mercury and any harm in children. Apparently, they do not deny any possible link either.
